Think for a moment what your eyes have to do when you read. Do they really just have to provide a clear image of the text? Well of course, but that would only allow you to see one or two letters. To see a word needs a 'jump' or 'refixation'. To read a sentence needs many. Then a jump back to the beginning of the next line. Different size text means a different size jump!
How about catching a ball?
You don't need to see it clearly but you do need to know how fast it is travelling and be able to direct your hands and body to intercept it in mis flight. These skills we often take for granted or admit that we have poor skills without asking the reasons why.
