Who we are

Welcome to John P Glover - The Centre for Neuro-Developmental and Behavioural Optometry

We do not just provide a typical Optometric NHS service but offer a much wider and just as important service to the community. Here is a little bit about who we are.

John was born and brought up in Ashton under Lyne. After qualifying from City University, London John started his career working with Professor Bedwell and fitting contact lenses at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He gained his advanced diploma in contact lenses during this time. Returning to Manchester he took a part-time position at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and joined the family firm of Selby and Glover. In 1979 he set up his own practice in Romiley whilst continuing with Selby and Glover, John works as an occasional lecturer at Manchester University. John works with his wife Janet who is qualified in neuromotor immaturity, retained primitive reflexes and vision therapy. They work together to get the best possible outcomes for individual children.

What more do we offer

For the past 20 years John has been working hard with both adults and children who have vision and learning difficulties. This can range from children who are struggling at school with their reading and work to adults who have suffered traumatic head injuries and strokes. John is passionate about ensuring that every individual gets the best help they can to achieve their potential. Many children come to see John for an assessment and many are referred through their schools, educational psychologist, paediatrician and special educational needs teachers. Adults also attend after seeking help in many places for more complicated visual problems, especially those who experience problems following trauma. He provides a wide range of methods and programmes to try help everybody and alleviate symptoms. (link-see our testimonial pages for more detailed examples).

John and Janet continue to study and attends seminars and conferences to learn new technology and techniques in behavioural and neuro developmental optometry. Currently he is attending a post graduate course in the USA from the Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association. This work is having a massive positive effect on soldiers returning from war in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran, having experienced injuries from improvised explosive devices (IEDs). It is also proved very helpful with those who have experienced other head injuries such as traumatic brain injury. They are both studying with the Australasian College of Behavioral Optometry (ACBO) to further their knowledge and understanding of Vision Therapy.
